Sex Positive New Year’s Resolutions
It’s 2021 and while nothing is fixed on a global scale, the New
Year always brings a feeling of new beginnings, creativity and ambition. At the end of 2020 we dusted ourselves off after a brutal Instagram killing (at 50K followers, no less) and started afresh with a new Editorial Team, a new Instagram account (@s3xplusmag) and as always an appetite for sex positive articles and activities despite, or maybe even because of, the Global Pandemic.
Here at Sex+ we don’t believe in self-flagellating New Year’s resolutions (although we like self-flagellation in general!). They are impossible for ANYONE to stick to and will result in failure and more self-loathing. We like to focus on positive goals so here are some of the Editorial Team’s sex positive goals for 2021…
Expand my knowledge of sex toys! I want to save up and buy the quality that my body deserves while supporting local and small businesses. Ideally toys that are sustainably and ethically made, like Prudence! My orgasms should only deserve the best.
I’m keen to learn more about Shabari rope tying flow techniques this year. Nothing quite like taking the rules of constraint (literal constraint in this case) into more innovative and, for me, more sensational and connecting manoeuvres.
I want to focus on communicating more, being able to voice what kind of mood I’m in, but also listening more to my partner’s needs, respecting our bond and partnership in this journey. We’re moving flat soon and I can’t wait to have a proper bedroom with a new bed, I’m hoping it has a drawer to stash said sex toys!
I want to discover a new kind of orgasm this year! Since I’ve embarked on a sex positive approach to life I’ve constantly been surprised by the new things that I find out along the way. In that context setting this goal seems ambitious but also possible. Let’s see what happens next…
I get to speak about sex positivity a lot and, in that, it helps me to release and banish the shame that society has ingrained in me. I want to explore and address my own personal shame more this year. Sometimes I find it hard to feel sexy in my sweatpants, binge-watching Netflix. I feel like I shouldn’t be having sex because I am not in the condition that society perceives as sexy. I want to banish those unattainable values of self-worth and sex appeal. Regardless of what clothes are on my body, or if I’ve showered yet, that shouldn’t determine my right to make love with my partner.
I want more action with others. If that means I have to get out of my Lockdown mindset and pyjamas and make something happen then that’s what I’m going to do! I’m going to find me some like-minded sex pos folx for some online something, Anything.
We hope you are inspired by our sex positive goals. We’d love to hear from you - what are your sex positive goals for this year?

To keep us sane and connected as we move towards the end of this lockdown (we hope!). we’re relaunching our events online, running on Thursday evenings, starting with Sex Positive Speed Dating. Check out this and other events here.
Let’s make this New Year a happy, sex positive and connected one! While we know this year won’t be easy, we hope that there will be light at the end of the tunnel and that we will be able to hold each other and hold sex positive events in person again soon. Also we promise to bring you the usual real, informative, thought-provoking articles, interviews and reviews that we have been doing now for four years!
Happy Sex Positive New Year!
With Love,
